Coaches

Coach Brock Peterson is entering his 5th year as head coach for the Bobcats. Peterson spent the previous 4 seasons as an assistant coach under the "Godfather" of Bobcat cross country, Jeff Venema. Coach Peterson brings a wealth of knowledge to the program as an avid runner and self-proclaimed "running geek." Peterson states that he, "loves the culture and community of the running world." At Bonner Springs HS, Peterson was varsity member of the track team for 4 years and cross country team for 3 years. From there he ran for Johnson County Community College competing in cross country, indoor and outdoor track for the Cavaliers. After 2 years at JCCC, Coach Peterson earned a scholarship to the University of Arkansas-Little Rock. One year of life in Little Rock, Arkansas was enough for Brock and he moved closer to home and walked on to the team at Pittburg State. However, a major knee injury derailed his career and he was unfortunately never able to don the crimson and gold for the Gorillas. After a decade long hiatus from running, Coach Peterson, decided to lace his racing shoes again. He has since run many local races such as the Tiblow Trot, Head for the Cure 5k, Flapjack 5k, Lincoln Half Marathon as well as the KC and Boston Marathons. He and his wife, Jennifer, welcomed their baby girl, Lillian Elise to the world in March of 2018. Look for little Lily and her 4-legged pal Dash to be cruising around cross country courses all fall!

Coach Keara Lenard is beginning her 4th year at BLHS as an assistant coach. Lenard previously coached for one season as an assistant coach with the Salina Central High School cross country team and for 8 seasons with Northeast Kansas Track Club. Coach Lenard comes from a lengthy running background as her first track meet was at 1 year and 11 months old; she has not looked back since. Lenard's experience is endowed by 16 years of participating with Northeast Kansas Track Club, 4 seasons with the Brokaw Blazers Cross Country team and four years as a state qualifier in both track and cross country at Wamego High School. Lenard went on to run cross country and track at Kansas Wesleyan University where she was a 3-time indoor track National Qualifier before she retired due to a family tragedy. Coach Lenard is engaged and will be "Coach Fish" next fall season. She spends much of her time sharing pictures of her dog, Brinc, and going on adventures with Joe and Brinc.
