We are so excited to see that you are interested in trying out for the BLHS 2025-2026 Cheerleading team. This is a quick overview of what to expect for tryouts and our season. Please read through the Cheerleading Handbook for detailed information.
If you have any questions, please contact us at blhscheer@usd458.org.
Tryout clinics will be held April 9th - 11th from 6:00 - 7:00 AM. We will be starting at 6:00 AM; being late will affect your final score. There will be transportation from the high school to the middle school after clinics.
Tryouts will be held on Monday, April 14th beginning at 5:00 PM. We will announce the team via email after all scores have been calculated. Please do not post the list until we have posted on our social media.
During clinics, we will be reviewing motion techniques and jumps and learning a cheer, chant, and dance routine. All tryout material will be taught during clinic days. However, videos will be posted on the BLHS Cheerleading website at the conclusion of clinic day 1.
All paperwork is due by April 7th by 8:00 PM.

We do not tolerate drama. We are a team on the court/field, in practice, and at school. We treat each other with respect.
There are four requirements for tryouts: complete Interest Form, read Handbook, sign and turn in Permission Form, and email the Teacher/Coach Evaluation to all of your current teachers and one coach.
Participants, please join the tryout GroupMe.
Compose an email and include all of your current teachers, one coach, and us (blhscheer@usd458.org). This will help us help YOU keep track of which teachers have completed your evaluations.
Send the link below to your teachers. It is due April 7th.
What should I wear to clinics? Tryouts?
Clinics: Wear athletic attire and tennis shoes.
Tryouts: White shirt or tank top, black shorts/spandex, tennis shoes, bow optional
How many athletes do you plan to take?
We look at the natural break in scores. We have taken 24 athletes the last two years, but that number is not set in stone.
Do I need prior cheer experience?
No prior experience is required. We look for enthusiasm, potential, and a willingness to learn.
Who will I tryout with?
We will randomly assign numbers and you will tryout in a group of three. You will get your number on the second day of clinics. We will make adjustments if participants decide to not tryout.
What does tryout day look like?
We will all meet at 4:45 PM to stretch. We will then go in and show the judges as a group, the dance, cheer, and chant. Then we will begin with the first group. After your group has gone, you are free to go. The new 2025-2026 team will be announced within 2 hours of tryouts ending.
What will we do at tryouts?
You will show two jumps and material learned at clinics: chant, cheer, and dance. You will also rally after each section of the tryout. You will also be able to show tumbling if you have any.
What makes up our final score?
Your attendance, grades, teacher and coach evaluations, tryout score, and clinic score (being on time, asking questions, participating)
Can I get my score after tryouts?
You are welcome to email us starting on Wednesday to request feedback based on all the data collected from tryouts. We will not release scores nor teacher/coach evaluations.
Tryout material will be posted after the first day of clinics.
