We will attend all varsity football and basketball games.
Football season: Games are on Friday nights. Next year’s game schedule has already been posted on the football team’s website.
Basketball season: Games are on Tuesdays and Fridays, unless it is the state tournament.
Leaving early from practice or games for other obligations including sports, events, or work will not be permitted unless otherwise approved.
There are five requirements for tryouts: join the GroupMe, complete Interest Form, read Handbook with a parent/guardian, sign and turn in Permission Form, and email the Teacher/Coach Evaluation to all of your current teachers and one coach.
Please review the handbook with your parents/guardians. You will be initially on your permission form that you have read through it.
Get a copy from the school office or print at home.
Signed permission form to be turned into BLMS office, BLHS CTE Office, or emailed to the coaches by March 20th at 3PM.
You will NOT be able to try out if this is not turned in on time.
Send the link below to all of your current teachers and one coach. Compose an email and include all of your current teachers, one coach, and us (blhscheer@usd458.org). This will help us help YOU keep track of which teachers have completed your evaluations.
What should I wear to clinics? Tryouts?
Clinics: Wear athletic attire and tennis shoes.
Tryouts: White shirt or tank top, black shorts/spandex, tennis shoes, bow optional
How many athletes do you plan to take?
We look at the natural break in scores. We have taken 24-25 athletes the last few years, but that number is not set in stone.
Do I need prior cheer experience?
No prior experience is required. We look for enthusiasm, potential, and a willingness to learn.
Who will I tryout with?
We will randomly assign numbers and you will tryout in a group of three. You will get your number on the second day of clinics. We will make adjustments if participants decide to not tryout.
What does tryout day look like?
We will all meet at 5:15 PM to stretch. We will then go in and show the judges as a group, the tryout material. Then we will begin with the first group. After your group has gone, you are free to go. The new team will be announced within 2 hours of tryouts ending.
What will we do at tryouts?
You will show two jumps and material learned at clinics: band chant, chant, cheer, and dance. You will also rally after each section of the tryout. You will also be able to show tumbling if you have any.
What makes up our final score?
Your attendance, grades, teacher and coach evaluations, tryout score, and clinic score (being on time, asking questions, participating)
Can I get my score after tryouts?
You are welcome to email us starting 48 hours to request feedback based on all the data collected from tryouts. We will not release scores nor teacher/coach evaluations.
