About Me
I grew up in Wichita and graduated from Wichita High School East. After high school, I attended Bethany College (Lindsborg, KS), where I played volleyball and softball, and I was involved in multiple other clubs/activities. Now that I am a retired athlete, I have found other ways to use my competitive energy. I used to be on an ice hockey team, and run obstacle course races over the summer. Now I play random sports with my husabnd and friends, and chase my 1 year old son around.
Growing up, it was always my dream to be an astronaut. I even went to space camp for a few years! When I realized that that just wasn't in the cards for me, I decided to follow my other passion, math education! I started tutoring my friends in 7th grade; my coaches had me running study sessions my sophomore year; and I was a peer tutor in college.
I am a huge nerd. Obviously, I love math, and I hope that you will learn to as well. I am also a diehard Harry Potter fan (I'm a proud Hufflepuff). I mentioned going to space camp as a kid, I actually also went last summer for a weekend! When I am not "nerding" out about math, space, or playing hockey, I try to find reasons to launch rockets or play hockey in class and take students outside for various activities and I am looking for opportunities for field trips.
I will be teaching Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra, and College Stats, and am also the head middle school volleyball coach and head softball coach. I was named an Apple Distingished Educator in 2023.
I am excited to be at Halstead High School this year and to see what it brings! Go Dragons!
