The Situation

You work for Gov-Co Consulting Incorporated:

Your firm has a subsidiary named Kramerica Industries that has accidentally unleashed a new virus (GC-16) that can potentially destroy the world. You have flown from Pacifica to the west coast but due to the panic, there are no transportation services or means to travel. You need to get to Kansas City, Missouri where information to stop this virus is kept. Use your geographical knowledge to design a route to get to Kansas City using the following instructions:

Part I:

GOOGLE MY MAPS: Using Google My Maps you will mark the stops along the journey to Kansas City. It will be a single map with multiple layers. Each stop will be tagged and should include the following three things:

Picture or video of the place you are stopping
Summary that includes 2 geographical facts about the the stop
Explain why the stop is important to your search for the cure to GC-16

Your journey will take you across the western United States. Below are the 6 labeled layers you should have. There will be a total of 16 tagged stopping points.

Starting & End Point: Start at one of the twenty largest cities that is also on the west coast of the United States. This list will help you.
Capital Cities: Stop at 3 state capital cities to warn government officials of the disease
Research Universities: Stop at 3 Research Universities from this list to encourage scientists to work on a vaccine
Bodies of Water: Stop 3 Major bodies of water (non-ocean) to make sure they are not polluted with the new disease.
Eco-regions: OUTLINE parts of 3 Ecoregions from this map to check local flora for the spread of the disease.
Tourist Attractions: Stop at 2 major tourist attractions to warn visitors of the potential danger.

Part II:

GOOGLE SHEETS: List fifteen items you will carry with you on this journey.

You can only carry 40 pounds
Everything should fit into a large backpack or be carried in your hands
No guns

Part III:

Flipgrid: Use Flipgrid to send a message to your friends or family explaining what you are trying to do along with any final words… in case you don’t make it.

In your video be sure to use historical facts from the Epidemic SlideMission to show why pandemics are so serious.

EXTRA CREDIT: Use GOOGLE DRAWINGS to design your campsite.

Insert images of items you will use.
Draw shapes of additional items you will need.
Include a method to protect yourself from panicked survivalists.
