Spelling words will go home at the end of the week and will be tested at the end of the following week. This will give your students at least a week to study their spelling words. The spelling words are decodable from sounds we’ve learned plus one tricky word to practice. Please have your child practice sounding out the words rather than memorizing. Knowing the rules and using the sounds will help them apply sound spellings to a variety of words. For example, learning ‘a_e’ can help spell bake, cake, rake, make, etc.

What counts for reading? EVERYTHING! :)

*5-10 min of tricky word practice (sight words)

*10 min playing memory with word cards

*7 min of spelling or building words

*15 min taking turns reading a bedtime story

*Take-Home chapters from our decodable readers - Can be signed by a parent that their child read it to them and returned for a sticker

*Any book you can get your hands on!

Each month, your child will bring home a Reading Bingo Sheet! Students are encouraged to read for at least 20 minutes each night. Regular reading at home helps build important reading stamina, fluency, and confidence.

Students can earn fun rewards for completing their Reading Bingo Sheet:

Complete a Bingo
Students who complete at least a bingo by the end of the month will earn a small sticker. Beginning in October, they will also receive a Pizza Hut coupon!

Complete a Blackout
Students who complete a blackout by filling in every square on their bingo sheet will earn a colorable sticker to keep!

Complete the Book Review
There is a book review on the back of the bingo sheet. The book review must be completed by the student and in their own handwriting. Students who have a blackout bingo AND complete the book review will earn a Desk Pet for the day!

Students can complete and earn these prizes at any time before the end of the month. Thank you for encouraging your child to read at home and helping us build a love of reading! 

Month 3, Week 2: Gratitude - Emotion Regulation

We will identify different things they are Grateful for about themselves and learn about using Gratitude as a way to change their emotions.

Lesson #7: Subtracting Two-Digit Numbers

We will finish learning different strategies to subtract two-digit numbers using a number line and base ten blocks.

Lesson #8: Use Addition and Subtraction Strategies with Two-Digit Numbers

We will start identifying addition and subtraction problems and discuss various strategies to solve.

Quiz: Wednesday, October 28th

We will finish Unit 2 with various assessments on word identification, reading comprehension, and fluency (WCPM). We will spend time editing and publishing our Narrative Book Report.

We will finish reading the decodable book: Bedtime Tales. Some of these chapters will be sent home periodically. Please review the chapters with your child to practice their reading. *This can be signed and returned for a sticker

Unit 3 Greek Myths

We will finish our unit by reading the following stories:
