6th Grade

Intro to Media is a 7 (ish)-week course designed to introduce students to the concepts of news, news writing, photography, and design. Briefly, the course consists of instruction in:

• the rights and responsibilities of journalists and student journalists in the US

• the 5Ws+H of the news

• the structure of news writing (lead, background, body, ending)

• the basics of photography

• the basics of design

 If students like this introduction, they can sign up for one of two classes in 8th grade. (See below.)

*The class will also satisfy the district requirement for 6th graders to complete the Typing.com program.
