ARRIVAL
Students should arrive between 7:35 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. and go directly to the gym.
7th graders will enter through the main (east) entrance on Harrison Street and wait in the Auxillary gym.
8th graders will enter through the south doors on 19th Street and wait in the Main gym.
Breakfast is served from 7:35 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. in the cafeteria.
First bell: 7:55 a.m. Students will be dismissed by row to go to their Advisory class.
Tardy Bell at 8:05 a.m. after this time, all students will need to enter the Main (east) entrance on Harrison Street.
Students arriving after the tardy bell will be counted tardy and need to sign in at the office.
ABSENCES
Parents/Guardians are to notify the schoolthrough Safe Arrival when a student will be absent from school.
DISMISSAL
All students are dismissed at 3:25 p.m.
Students will exit through the main or south entrance.
Homework Help students are dismissed at 4:25 p.m. through the main entrance.
TRAFFIC PROCEDURES
USD 428 and the Great Bend Police Department would like to inform you of safety procedures to be used when dropping off or picking up students from Great Bend Middle School.
Drivers may use the drop-off lane on the west side of Harrison by pulling to the end of the lane before letting students out of the car.
Drivers may drop off students on the east side of Harrison until 8:00 a.m.
Drivers are not permitted to stop in the middle of Harrison Street for pick up/drop off.
Drivers may not park on the east side of Harrison Street after school to pick up students.
Drivers may want to use the parking stalls north of the main entrance on Harrison or 19th Street west of Harrison St.
Drivers are not permitted to stop, stand, or park on the street where the curb is yellow or block any private driveway.
Drivers who choose to park on 19th Street or on 21st Street may do so only in legal areas.
In accordance with Kansas Standard Traffic Ordinances, students need to be using crosswalks to get across the street.
Drivers picking up on the east side of the building need to stay in an orderly line and wait for their students within the designated waiting lane. Please, pull all the way to the end of the pick-up lane to wait for your student.
Parents may use the parking lot across 19th Street to pick up students.
All other traffic ordinances will be enforced by law enforcement including speeding (the speed limit is 20 miles per hour from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.), U-turns, failure to use signals, illegal stopping, illegal parking, impeding traffic, jaywalking, etc.
Traffic tends to be congested during arrival and dismissal times. In order to ensure the safety of our students, please be aware of your surroundings!

Special Education Services- Great Bend Middle School is a member of the Barton County Special Services Cooperative. Direct services are provided through the Cooperative in the areas of gifted, learning disabilities, behavior disorders, speech/language, and other programs. If you feel your child has special learning needs that are not being met in the regular classroom, please contact the building principal to discuss these issues.
