The Counselor's Corner

Welcome!

So glad you've stopped by! My name is Taylor Minihan and I'm the MHS school counselor. I also serve as the Student Council sponsor. Please take a look around and let me know how I can be of help!

What 3 factors lead to better performance and personal satisfaction? Autonomy, Mastery, AND Purpose. What do these 3 things have in common?

All 3 are intrinsic rewards... meaning we are happiest when we find satisfaction from within. We desire to feel independent and strong. We desire to feel confident in our abilities - "I am good at this." Finally, we desire to feel a sense of purpose - "I'm making a difference in my corner of the world."

About Me

Background:

Hello! I grew up outside of Marion, Kansas and attended Marion High School (it's good to be home). After graduating from MHS, I attended Kansas State University, receiving my bachelor's degree in Family Studies and Human Services with minors in Leadership Studies and Animal Sciences and Industry. I worked for the Kansas Department of Agriculture as an Agribusiness Development Coordinator for a little less than a year before deciding I wanted to go back to school. In Fall of 2017, I began working towards my master's degree in School Counseling.

Fun Facts:

I grew up on a ranch right outside of Marion and loved showing cattle. While at MHS, I was involved in cheerleading, NHS, 4-H, FFA, Singers, choir, Student Council, class officers, golf, basketball, cross country, debate and the musicals. I now have a corgi pup and love cactus (they are all over my office).

My favorite quote:

"It’s about the journey — mine and yours —and the lives we can touch, the legacy we can leave, and the world we can change for the better.” - Tony Dungy

Professional Involvement:

I'm a member of the American School Counselor Association.

What do I do?

While I am still working on my master's degree, I am very excited to have started my career here at Marion as a high school counselor. Once I have completed my degree, I will be a licensed K-12 counselor.

I firmly believe that counselors provide support for students in 3 domains; social-emotional learning, career development and academic development. It is my goal that my role as the school counselor benefits all students in the school.

College questions? Need information on FAFSA? Schedule changes? Need a transcript? Looking for scholarship applications to fill out? Want to be a teacher's aid or explore a work study? Concerned about a friend? Just need someone to talk with?

I can help with that! Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions. The school number is 620-382-2168. I can also be reached at my school email, minihtay@usd408.com. I look forward to hearing from you!

Student Council

Interested in Student Council? This is a group made up of 4 representatives from each class. We do many fun activities throughout the year to support and promote a positive school climate. StuCo plans homecoming activities, spirit weeks, dances, class games and other seasonal activities for the school. Each year, students who are interested in joining StuCo will sign up and their class will vote on 4 representatives. Students, keep an eye out for sign up sheets that go around at the end of each year.
