Melissa Carruthers

Grade Level / Subject(s) 2nd grade

About Me

  • I'm Melissa Carruthers and I am a first year teacher gearing up to teach 2nd grade!

  • At home, I enjoy running, photography, and hanging out with my four kiddos ranging in ages from fifteen to one year.

  • In May of this year I graduated from Wichita State University's Teacher Apprentice Program. During my internship, I was a special education paraprofessional at Derby Public Schools in the behavior and structured learning classrooms.

  • I believe that one of the most vital aspects of being an effective educator is building strong, positive student and teacher relationships. These positive relationships help students to feel acknowledged and supported. Students that feel supported are more engaged and motivated to try their best!

  • It is also important to celebrate each student's uniqueness! No two people learn the same way. It is so important to adapt instruction and lessons to meet the needs of each individual student.

  • I will strive to provide an engaging, stimulating, and fun learning environment. I want every student that walks through my classroom door to know that they are important and together we will create meaningful learning experiences!
