 About Me

Hi! My name is Mrs. Couvillion (Coo-ve-on), and I am SO excited to be part of the Sixth/Seventh Grade Language Arts Team! More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child’s teacher! It will be a fun year full of learning and new adventures, and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us. In the end, I want to know all about you and your child, but first, I will share with you a few things about me.

I was born in New Orleans, LA, and am the oldest of three! I have two younger brothers, Kevin and Michael. When I graduated from high school, I moved to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University (LSU) – Geaux Tigers – where I majored in Elementary Education.

After graduation, I received my first job teaching fifth-grade social studies and reading. Then, I took another job teaching fourth-grade science for a year and a half before moving to New Mexico.

In November 2002, I married my wonderful husband, Stephen, who was in the United States Air Force. After we married, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base. In New Mexico, I had the pleasure of teaching 6th-8th graders social studies, language arts, and reading for 9½ years. During those 9½ years, I decided to further my education and obtained my Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership.

While in New Mexico, my family grew in size. We had two children: Patrick (2003) and Emily (2008). Today, Patrick is 19 years old and attending WSU to become a pilot, and Emily is 15 years old – a sophomore at AHS. We also added two furbabies -- Bailee and Lexie – who love to make a mess of our house!

In June of 2010, my family and I moved to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, where I taught 5th-grade language arts and social studies for three years.

During the summer of 2015, we relocated to McConnell Air Force Base, where I had my first experience as a member of Andover Middle School. It was the absolute best experience of my life. Unfortunately, in 2019, the military decided it was time for us to move again. This time, we relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where my husband worked as the First Sergent at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) prep school. To say the year was an experience is an understatement. After the third blizzard, I was ready to pack my bags and head somewhere warmer. After deep consideration and long discussions, my family and I decided to make Andover, Kansas, our forever home.

In 2020, I was extremely fortunate to be rehired as a sixth/seventh-grade ELA teacher!!! I absolutely love my job, the families, and the faculty of AMS. It is truly an amazing school!!

I am currently starting my 24th year in education and love it like it is my first. I look forward to working with you - students and parents - to make this a memorable and exciting year!

                                                                                                                                 Sincerely,

                                                                                                                          Mrs. Couvillion
