TRYOUT PROCESS
Fill out Application. Go to Quick Links to find the application. Be sure that you fill out the correct one!!
Complete the Tryout Process. All students will be required to attend BOTH days of tryouts to be eligible for the team. One day of the tryout process will be an academic test. For those wishing to prepare, the content on the test is based on this year's Science Olympiad events. Please go to www.soinc.org to find the event descriptions (or they are available on the home page). The test will have primarily short answer questions with the possibility of some matching so that we can get a genuine gauge of what students know. We understand that younger students generally do not outperform the older students (i.e. a freshman versus a senior or a 6th grader versus an 8th grader). We use these scores to compare across grade bands as well as what students should know at a certain grade. The test is NOT the only prong of choosing team members. The second part of the tryout process will be a hands-on challenge of some kind. This is usually a task that might be seen in a Science Olympiad event. During this day we are looking at how students work with others AND how well students are able to plan, design, and complete the task.
