The History of Trojan Nite

In the fall of 1967, at one of the first annual retreats for Student Council, the idea of Trojan Nite was evolved from a group of student leaders who were searching for a way to increase involvement in student activities and to provide funds for Student Council projects. Inspired by the Indoor Olympics at the Kansas Workshop for Student Council, these students exploited the Trojan theme by using class competition. Archie Utsler was the Student Body President that year, and Mrs. Chase was the Student Council Sponsor. In those first years, classes could spend no more than five dollars on decorations and costumes. Thus, Andover homes were soon depleted of their supplies of worn sheets, and sponsors rode in chariot races until several spills and upset chariots proved too dangerous for the riders. Through the years judges have included school board members, parents, teachers, administrators, former Student Council members and former participants in past Trojan Nites. In 1986, Student Council designed a new Trojan Nite trophy and named it “The Chase Award for Trojan Nite,” in honor of the retired Student Council Sponsor, Mary Chase. During the opening ceremonies of 1986 games, the trophy was dedicated to Mrs. Chase, who was the guest of honor. Each year, the Student Council has tried to capture the imagination and challenge the ingenuity of the Andover High School students and bring them one of the most exciting events of the year.

Trojan Nite Schedule

9:00 am: Trojan Stadium Gates Open for Decoration

12:00 pm: Participant, Cheerleader, Royalty Meeting

Trojan Stadium Gates Closed

Classes will follow the schedule given by class officers to get ready

Approximately 4:30 pm: Body Painting begins

5:00 pm: Judging Begins

6:00 pm: Trojan Stadium Gates Open

6:30 pm: Trojan Nite Begins

Approximately 8:45 pm: Trojan Nite Ends, and Clean Up Begins
