Jason May started working at USD 382 as a 7th Grade Science Teacher. While at LMS he coached Middle School wrestling, a sport he was passionate about. He furthered his education to become a administrator and left 382 to gain experience. He came back and was hired as a Principal. After his death, his wife and family chose the Pratt Public School Foundation to receive any memorial funds. We have had many discussions about the best way to honor Jason and we found a number of things we feel Jason would like.
Southwest Superfrog on the fence at Southwest Elementary School
Mr May started the Superfrog Assemblies and created excitement at Southwest. He used these assemblies to teach lunchroom etiquette, to let kids compete, to encourage playing safely on the playground, to recognize achievements among the students.
The true SUPERFROG was Mr May. To honor him in that position, the Superfrog will be proudly placed on the fence at Southwest!
Jason was always making sure he set aside funds to make sure kids had things they needed. The fund would pay for clothes, shoes, coats, hygiene products, and when necessary Doctor, dental and eye appointments.
The Foundation is giving $1000 to the fund this school year to help with these needs. In future years, we will give $500 until the funds from the memorial are depleted.
Jason knew the importance of being a proficient reader. He initiated many programs at Southwest to encourage young readers.
Because of his support for reading - the Foundation has set aside $3000 of his memorial money to help buy books for the new library in the PAC Building
Every Year, the Kindergarten classes travel on the Polar Express. Jason would dress up and be their conductor! To honor this, a gold, Polar Express Ticket was made to be displayed in his memory at the beginning of the Southwest Polar Express Journey!
