Below is the process for packing up/disposing of unwanted resources (purchased with district funds only) from classrooms/buildings. Packing up, inventorying and labeling old resources is the responsibility of the classroom teacher. This process can happen at any time during the school year and is only for resources related to curriculum that have been purchased with district funds. Any curriculum/resource that was purchased with building funds will be handled at the building.
Any other items (i.e. office equipment, office furniture, office supplies, etc.) should be processed through the service center for possible sale on Purple Wave. Purple Wave is managed by Dustin Glavin, Director of Maintenance.
If the resources are 10 years old or older, they may be recycled at the building. Go to #5 for information on recycling. For all other resources follow steps 2-6.
Use boxes that have lids, are sturdy and can be closed completely and taped (crates are not to be used as boxes). Boxes should be of a size that is manageable and not overly heavy. Please do NOT overfill boxes.
Box like items together (i.e. same titles, content area, student textbooks, teacher resources, etc.). If copies have been made, please recycle those at the building.
Fill out an inventory form (see below) for EACH box. Make a copy of the completed form. Place original form inside the box and send a copy to the Instructional Services office, Attn: Nora Miller at McKinley for processing. With the receipt of the inventory form, vendors will be contacted to check options for buyback.
If the curriculum is not able to be resold, it will be recycled at the building so as to avoid unnecessary moving of boxes. We have recently partnered with Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) to come pick up textbooks for recycling. Pickup dates/times will be coordinated and communicated by Nora. (Do not continue with step 6.)
If buyback is possible, you will be informed to secure boxes with packaging tape and place boxes in designated area of school for pickup (check with your administrator).
For items to be stored at district office, please see instructions in the next section (Storing Instructions for Current Resources).
Thanks for your help with this process. If you have any questions, please contact Nora Miller at 316-284-6203 or email at nora.miller@usd373.org.

Below is the process for packing up and storing current resources that are not being used due to decreased enrollment/sections (i.e. Reading Wonders, Pathways to Reading, math manipulatives or any other district-purchased resource). Packing up, inventorying and labeling these resources is an important process in order to account for district and building resources in the event that the enrollment/sections increase in the future. This is the responsibility of the classroom teacher. Please complete this process prior to leaving for the summer.
Any other items (i.e. office equipment, office furniture, office supplies, etc.) should be processed through the service center for possible sale on Purple Wave. Purple Wave is managed by Dustin Glavin, Maintenance Director.
