Joining the National Honor Society is a meaningful way to recognize and celebrate academic excellence, leadership, and service. It offers students the chance to connect with like minded peers, contribute to impactful community projects, and build a strong foundation for college and scholarship opportunities. NHS members are seen as role models in their schools, and the experience helps cultivate character and responsibility that extend far beyond the classroom.
In order to qualify for membership in Newton High School's Chapter of National Honor Society, students must be a junior or senior (applied for sophomore and junior year) and must have a minimum GPA of at least 3.5 in either the summa cum laude or Kansas Scholars curriculum. Eligible students are notified with a letter inviting them to apply in February of each year and are encouraged to submit applications for consideration by a committee of staff members. When considering each of the applicants, committee members take into consideration NHS’s four pillars of character, scholarship, leadership and service. Students must demonstrate leadership and have participated in service projects during their freshman and sophomore years of high school. Students who have been chosen to be inducted into NHS are then notified of their selection and are formally inducted in a ceremony at the end of April. If you are interested in joining, look through the Application for Membership materials below, so you can be prepared to meet all the requirements.
