Student Council- Students fill out an application to run for class representatives at the beginning of the year. They meet every other week and plan events for the students of the school. They are also a liaison to many civic engagement opportunities within our community. Our students collected boxes full of wonderful gifts for each resident in a nursing home here in Paola and enjoyed cookies and milk with them as they delivered their gifts.
Girls on the Run-Meeting twice a week in small teams, we teach life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The curriculum is taught by certified Girls on the Run coaches and includes three parts: understanding ourselves, valuing relationships and teamwork and understanding how we connect with and shape the world at large.
Fine Arts and Science Night-Fine Arts and Science Night is all about what inspires and excites our children. This can be seen through singing, dancing, skits artwork, or a science fair project. It is a time to Let Our Children Shine in ways we might not see in the walls of a classroom!
Power Hour- Power Hour is a 30 minute time once a week for teachers and students to explore their passions. Students go to various activities of their choosing to learn something in an area of interest. The teachers that are not having a Power Hour student group are meeting in a teacher group. They will present what they have learned to other teachers in the weekly staff meeting.
Playworks-will help equip our staff and community with the tools needed to create a positive recess experience for every one of our students. By shifting behavior on the playground, we expect to see more positive student engagement, more fun play opportunities and reduced negative episodes so that our students can return to the classroom ready to learn.
Leadership Jobs- Our 5th grade students have the opportunity to go through an application and interview process for school jobs.
MTSS- We do all school MTSS or interventions with students divided into groups by their score in their lowest RIT band. Specialized instruction is given to improve their skills in this particular area.
