Here is the final Longhorn Girls' Swim Team update for the season. As always, we appreciate & thank you for your interest in our team.
State Swim was this weekend (Friday/Saturday) at Lenexa.
Ella Stoppel qualified in the 50 yard Freestyle with a consideration time; she had the 20th best time in Friday's preliminaries, and finished with the 17th best time--one spot out of Saturday's Finals' races. She would have been the next swimmer into the Finals had someone had to drop out, but that unfortunately did not happen, so Ella finished as the 17th best 50 yard Free swimmer in the 1A-5A division in the State. We are so proud of her.
The 200 yard Freestyle Relay of Ella, Ashlynn Powers, Kiera Brink & Halle Jones, made it to State with a qualifying time of 1:52.31. They were originally seeded 19th going into Friday's preliminaries; they swam a new school record time of 1:51.43, and earned the 16th place for Saturday's Finals, the last spot in. In the Finals, they improved their time to 1:49.86, the 12th best team in the State Finals & in the State!!!. Each girl swam an amazing race!!!
From Coach Davis: "This is the first time Longhorn swimmers have competed and scored points in the state meet finals. The Longhorns finish their season with three top 25 state-ranked relays, as well as Ella ranking 17th in the 50 freestyle and top 25 in the 100 Freestyle." We are also very proud of these girls and their accomplishments.
The 200 Medley Relay (the same 4 girls), and 400 yard Free Relay (Isabel Macias in place of Kiera) also competed at State; they didn't swim in the Finals, but did end the season in the top 25 of their classification. As a team & individuals, we are also very proud of all that they accomplished this year.
It has been a phenomenal year for our team, and we are already excited & ready to get back at it next season!!! Coach Kennedy
