Text Structures
like a building has an architecture to it, so does text - this is how a writer puts the words together to form a text5 types of text structure
description
it will have sensory details
if you could color-code it w/ a few of the five senses OR a lot of one of the senses, it is most likely this structure
cause/effect
it will state an issue or event & then what happens because of it
if you can say "because this, then this…" and it makes sense, it is most likely this structure
compare/contrast
it points out how items are alike & different
if you can do a Venn diagram with the info, then it is most likely this text type
chronological (sequential)
it will have an order to it with words like first, second third; or next, then, after that…etc.
if it does not have those clue words, it is not this text structure
problem/solution
it will state an issue and have a way to resolve it
people often confuse this with cause/effect, but to be problem and solution - it is providing a clear and reasonable way to fix an issue
