About Us

Hello! I am Ms. Roman and I will be the 5th grade counselor at VCIS this year! This will be my first year as a school counselor as well as my first year in the Valley Center District. I am so excited to start my counseling journey and cannot wait to spend my year working with these awesome kiddos!

I grew up in Andover, graduating from WSU in May 2022 with my bachelor’s in elementary education. Upon graduation, I jumped right into WSU’s school counseling graduate program and am currently in my third semester with plans to graduate with my master’s in May 2024! I have taught dance at Kelcy’s Dance Studio for the past four years, though this year I’ll be stepping away to focus on my studies and this new adventure. When I’m not dancing or studying, I love to spend time with my family and fiancé, my cats, cooking or reading a good book! 

Hi Everyone! I am Mrs. Burdette and I will be serving at the 4th grade counselor here at VCIS this year. This year is my 19th year working in the Valley Center School district and my 14th year as a school counselor. I wholeheartedly believe I have the very best job in the school and am so excited for this school year!

Just a little about me: I am originally from Valley Center and graduated from VCHS in 1998. I went on to earn by Bachelor’s degree in psychology rom WSU and my Master’s  degree in School Counseling from Emporia State. My husband, Jason, and I have been married for 20 years. We have three children, Kate, 16 is a junior, Alayna, 13, is in 8th grade, and Jackson, 12 is in 6th grade this year. My dog, Via, is also a therapy dog and comes to school with me a few days each week. In my free time, I enjoy crafting and being creative, as well as, spending time with my family!
