Task List

--------College & Career Planning Resources are printed in your agenda on page 15 - 20. --------

It is critical to begin developing yourself as an attractive college candidate during your sophomore year. This will be the first opportunity to branch out and take courses that interest you other than core classes.

Review your 9th grade transcripts and sophomore course choices. Be sure to utilize your Xello results & school counselor’s expertise in course selection.

  • Participate in an academic or career exploration opportunity

  • Save money from your summer job to help with senior expenses

  • Apply for scholarships, join the CCC remind class, check the CCC on Teams, and visit bit.ly/ScholarshipBuff to find scholarships you can apply to now.

  • Start thinking about what you are looking for in a college (size, location, cost, etc.). Visit colleges or plan to attend sophomore events to get a feel for what different college campuses are like.

  • Complete the FAFSA4caster to determine your Pell Grant eligibility (see lingo to know)

  • Your 10th grade year is a great time to get involved in school and community extracurricular activities that truly interest you. Remember quality counts, not quantity, when it comes to choosing organizations you participate in. Check page 3 of our agenda for our club/activity info.

  • Continue to focus on academic development. Work to maximize your strengths and develop your weaknesses in order to realize your full potential. Explore special interests through elective courses and develop specialized skills by taking advanced classes in a specific elective content area.
