Teams must have:
4 or 5 players (4 Players preferred for playing time and more competition. If 7th or 8th grade, Only 3 may play on a team, KSHSAA Rule.)
Matching color of shirts for games. (May use penny jerseys if like colored shirts.)
One parent listed as main contact for tournament rules and information. (Optional: Can have others listed as secondary contacts.)
Teams will be placed in their grade based pool/tournament. In the event of not enough teams in one or more grades, we may combine grades to add games.
Games will be 15 min, running clock. All games in a gym will start and end at the same time. There will be a 5 min warm-up / clean-up between games.
Teams will have only one parent to help facilitate subbing. Players will coach themselves, parents can cheer and enjoy! This is meant to be a fun environment of playing basketball! Winning is encouraged, but not the end goal. Subs can be at any dead ball, a made basket is considered a dead ball and subs can be made before the ball is checked. A coin flip will be used to decide who starts with the ball.
Teams will have one - 30 sec. "timeout". This timeout will not stop the gym clock, but it will allow for teams to discuss any changes they may want to make for the game.
Scoring will be 1 pt for inside the arc and 2 pt for outside the arc. Shooting fouls will be awarded one FT inside the arc and one pt plus one FT for outside the arc (for a potential of 2 pts). Shooting fouls that happen and the attempt is made, the offense will be awarded the points of the made shot and be given 1 FT. Non-Shooting fouls after 5 will result in an automatic point for the offense, we want to encourage defense without fouling! Fouls after 8 will result in 2 automatic points (this is to encourage playing and not fouling end of games). Offense and defense will switch after made baskets or any turnover. Offense must take the ball past the arc and on dead balls "check" the ball to the defense. When ball is returned to the offensive player after the "check" the ball is live. On missed shots or live ball turnovers, the newly gained offensive team must get the ball by dribbling or passing outside of the arc. Outside the arc is defined by both feet being outside the arc. Offensive rebounds do not require taking the ball back outside the arc, the offensive team may keep attempting to score.
Any jump balls will always be awarded to the defense. We will not alternate possession.
End of game stalling is not allowed. Teams must at all times be attempting to score. After approximately 20 seconds, the player or coach assigned to the basket may call out a countdown timer from 10 seconds. At the end of the shouted out time, if the team with the ball has not attempted to shoot it will result in a dead-ball turnover. If the offense shoots during the timer and rebounds the ball. The player or coach will call out the new timer of 10 seconds for the offense to again attempt a shot. This will continue as long as the offense shoots and gets an offensive rebound.
If games end the 15 minutes in a tie, a FT shootout will determine the winner. Each team will send one player to shoot 1 FT. If both make or miss their attempt, teams will send out a different player to shoot. We will follow that format until one team has made and one has missed.
Each basket will have some HS players or a coach to help facilitate the games. They may call fouls as needed. If play gets to physical and no longer about the game, they may request a sub for both teams to "cool off" the players involved, the parent on the bench may help this. If this happens multiple times in a game a player may be asked to sit the reminder of the game. Players will be removed from the tournament for any fighting, verbal or physical. Again this tournament is meant for the love of the game and help our local HS team.
Pools and brackets will be decided as early as possible and be sent out by Friday, December 5th (at the latest). Most likely the format will be pool play followed by a seeded bracket. Depending on number of teams may depend on the total number of games and the bracket style used.
Each Player must have a waiver signed and submitted to Coach Bangle at check-in the day of the tournament.
Payment of $100 per team must be paid cash or check.
Checks will be made out to: MVHS Boys Basketball (Payments can also be collected at check-in as well.)
Payment can be sent to:
