MY PROJECT

Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Shelter

About the Project:

On November 9th, we had a total of 25 volunteers attend Rose Brooks Domestic Violence Shelter. At Rose Brooks, they are about saving lives. The shelter not only protects hundreds of adults, children, and their pets who need help, but also helps thousands of families in the community. When we were there we played bingo, did crafts, colored, painted nails, and served a Thanksgiving meal to all the residents.

The students that came with us that were 16 years and under, unfortunately could not do all the activities the rest of us could do. Instead they cleaned the facility; like the therapy equipment, the toy room, tables and chairs with Mrs. Jochims. Them cleaning the facility and the items that get used by everyone everyday allows the shelter to not worry about sicknesses being spread. We had a great group for this part of the project and they did not complain once about it!

Great memories from Rose Brooks that will never be forgotten was seeing the residents smile and get excited when they won bingo prizes. Another one was watching the little kids enjoy their time with the volunteers while coloring, doing crafts and/ or getting their nails painted.

We brought many items with us to make the project successful, including four bins full of the bingo prizes, ten turkeys, ten pounds of mashed potatoes, three pans of stuffing, and between all the volunteers we all brought rolls and desserts. All these items were donated to us, which allowed us to serve a great Thanksgiving meal to the residents!!
