5th Grade Math: In fifth grade math students will cover a wide range of mathematical concepts including: place value, decimals, multiplication, division, fractions, volume, measurement, interpret data, numerical expressions, coordinate plane, patterns, and two dimensional shapes. The fifth grade class will take the fifth grade math state assessment.
6th Grade Math: In sixth grade math students will cover a wide range of mathematical concepts including: numerical and algebraic expressions, solve equations and inequalities, rational numbers, coordinate geometry, patterns, division, decimals, common factors and multiples, ratios, rates, percents, area, measure of center, and displaying and summarizing data. The sixth grade class will take the sixth grade math state assessment.
6th Grade English: In sixth grade English students will have the opportunity to help create an elementary newspaper, that will be published monthly. In the English textbook they will work on sentence structure, nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions and conjunctions. They will also have an English daily edit they will be responsible for that will focus on editing grammatical errors.
6th Grade Spelling: In sixth grade Spelling students will build vocabulary and writing skills over content-area vocabulary lessons. They will complete lessons over phonics, structure, and meaning-based spelling patterns. They will be taught spelling strategies that will last a lifetime.
6th Grade Social Studies: In sixth grade Social Studies students will study world history. They will learn about early centers of civilization, Eastern and Western civilizations, the rise and fall of civilizations and how some civilizations spread. We will end the year with early modern world and present day times. The
6th Grade Science: In sixth grade Science students use the textbook Inspire Education. This Science book is split into four units: 1) Life Structure and Function 2) Reproduction of Organisms 3) Energy in the Atmosphere 4) Human Impact on Environment. The students will use the 5E framework to think more critically.
