My name is Anna Bartkoski and I am currently a senior at Nemaha Central High School. I have an older brother named Will and two younger sisters, Kate and Ella. I would say I am closest to my sister Kate because we are closest in age and very similar, she is also the funniest person I know. Although, many people say that my youngest sister Ella is my “mini-me” because we look and act very much alike. We, of course, have our differences at times, but I could not imagine life without them. Since I am the oldest daughter, I feel as if I am the second mom to our family, but I would not trade this role for anything.
Unlike many others, I genuinely enjoy school. Sometimes it is exhausting, but I have come to love taking notes and learning new things each day. I keep a very neat planner and I enjoy making quizlets and other study materials. I participate in many clubs such as NHS, KAY, SADD, and FCCLA. All of these have given me a love for helping others and community service. I also have played volleyball my four years of high school and loved every second of it. My favorite part was being part of a team and having a second family. Even though I hate basketball, I almost went out again my senior year just because I missed being part of a team so much. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to grow up in a small town. There is a sense of safety and community that is hard to find somewhere else. I enjoy my small high school, and I feel as if we are seen as students and people and not just a number.
Next year, I plan to attend the University of Arkansas and major in Biology with a Pre-dental focus. Every time I tell someone that I plan to attend a school five and half hours away from home, they always raise their eyebrows and give me a strange look. Ever since I was younger, I have always wanted to attend school out of state. Almost everyone in my class wants to attend KSU or KU, or any of the smaller schools close to home. There is nothing wrong with these schools, but I wanted something that I could call my own. I knew I would have to work very hard throughout high school to maintain a high GPA and excellent credentials to be able to afford the tuition through some scholarships. I have taken a few dual credit classes such as College Algebra and Psychology and others, that have helped me get a good start on my college workload. After I obtain my biology degree, I hope to attend Dental School. While at UARK, I plan to join the Pre-dental club. I also plan to get many shadowing hours in, for this is a big requirement for any dental school. I hope to keep a high GPA throughout college, but still enjoy the college experience through meeting new people and having fun.
