Gabrielle is an Associate Professor in Human Development and Educational Psychology at the University of South Dakota, where she is an active member of the Science of Learning Research Group and the Center for Brain and Behavior Research.

Her research involves determining when and why young children struggle to learn from educational media (e.g., books, videos, apps) and identifying contextual and content-based scaffolds to support them. She is also interested in children's transfer of information from media to new contexts.
