The USC Rossier School of Education designed a School Counseling program to prepare students to provide academic and guidance counseling services to K-12 students. The program includes theories and practices through a trauma-informed lens, enabling a holistic and whole child emphasis while exploring the challenges and issues that affect schools and students today.
The theoretical knowledge presented in this program encouraged me to use skills that foster students' academic and socio-emotional well-being. At the same time, it also inspires students to consider career, and college goals never thought of before. Candidates complete a rigorous program of study as student counselors, following the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model. Candidates complete a 49 unit course of study with hands-on practicum and fieldwork experience at the elementary, middle, and high school level, using a theoretical framework focused on the three areas below.
