Appointments
WHAT TYPES OF WORK CAN YOU BRING TO THE HUB?
Ph.D. students can bring any academic or professional writing and speaking project to the Hub.
Examples include:
Journal and conference articles
Dissertations
Proposals and fellowship applications
Conference presentations and posters
Qualifying exam proposals and presentations
Career communications (CVs, resumes, teaching statements)
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A HUB APPOINTMENT?
Appointments will be led by the student and their needs. Students should be prepared with specific and realistic goals for each appointment. Examples of goals are organizing an abstract, revising overall organization in an article, practicing a presentation, or refining specific grammar issues.
Students working on long-term writing and speaking projects are encouraged to attend Hub appointments every few weeks as a way of monitoring their progress and addressing any questions early on. For example, students working on an article may want to schedule a series of appointments to work on progressive drafts. Students participating in the Three Minute Thesis competition may wish to schedule separate appointments for storyboarding and writing their script, creating a clear and memorable slide, and practicing their presentation.
