What is Computing as a Service? The broad scope of cloud computing and systems.
More specifically, “Computing as a Service” in IBM spans a wide array of efforts central to efficient and effective use of computing, including (1) cloud hardware infrastructure, (2) provisioning of cloud services from virtual machines to containers to data management to security to DevOps to specialized AI services such as deep learning, regression, and other aspects of big data, (3) development of systems from circuits to microprocessors to storage to packaging. As Program Director, my responsibilities included organization of strategy across these disparate efforts and ensuring that key Research efforts were reviewed and adopted as appropriate in other parts of IBM.
Prior to serving as Program Director, I held a wide variety of IBM positions. Immediately prior, I served with IBM's Corporate Technology Evaluation team, which coordinates studies reporting monthly to the CEO and other senior leaders in IBM about important technology directions and their impact on IBM business. During this period, I also served as IBM's acting Director of Technology.
Earlier, I served in a variety of roles in IBM Research from basic research to staff positions to management of large teams. This work has yielded dozens of peer-reviewed papers and patents. My resume has additional details.
