About the Program:
Hosted at the URI Kingston campus, the camp is open to woodwind, brass, and percussion students. To enroll in the camp, you must have completed the 7th through 12th grade in June of 2024.
The main focus of the camp is to provide interactive, welcoming, and joyful large ensemble and chamber ensemble experience. The students will partake in studio classes (with a URI faculty member or URI guest artist teaching all of the students of each section), chamber ensemble concerts, workshops/clinics, music theory classes, percussion ensemble, and the largest portion of their time will be collaborating with URI Director of Bands, Dr. Brian M. Cardany. The culmination concert on Saturday, July 29th, will feature the URI Summer Music Academy Concert Band. URI Music faculty and guest artists will provide each young musician individual attention and training in an age-appropriate collegiate musical experience.
Campers will enjoy an authentic Rhode Island experience! Musicians will take a field trip to a local beach for an afternoon of fun midway through camp. The campers will have time to relax and enjoy some down time together, oceanside! Each night will have a planned event for everyone, including a movie night, faculty recital, open swim at the university pool, and other fun activities.

Placement: Videos due June 1, 2024
There are no auditions for this camp; all 7th-12th grade band musicians are welcome! Students will be asked to submit a sample of their playing prior to camp so that they are placed in the appropriate seats in large/chamber ensembles.
Some of the best music-making experiences are the ones where you are playing side by side with advanced musicians, pushing you to be the best player that you can be! It is our philosophy that all students can be taught, and we are devoted to working hard with you this week as you progress as a musician!
Placement instructions: please share a google drive file of a video of you playing your instrument. Please choose two different selections of music (no more than 5 minutes of music combined). The two pieces should be contrasting in nature; one solo should show off your slow/lyrical/expressive playing, and the other piece should show off your technical ability, range, and overall control of the instrument. If you have any questions about this, please send alacasse@uri.edu an email!
Placement videos are due by June 1, 2024. Please submit via google drive to alacasse@uri.edu.
