NaArWriMo is short for National Article Writing Month, which is a new month we're celebrating annually in July.
Inspired by NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), we wanted to support anyone working on writing an article that they're planning to submit for publication!
(Also, if you'd like to write a novel instead, we highly recommend that you check out NaNoWriMo and their extensive, excellent resources. Many thanks to the NaNoWriMo folks, who have kindly let us adapt their abbreviation and format for our initiative. )
What can you expect from NaArWriMo?
Weekly Zoom writing sessions where you can pop in and write in a designated virtual space. We'll share some writing soundtracks that you can listen to as well, if you're someone who listens to music while writing!
A community of writers to work with and chat with (chat is in a separate virtual space) as you write. You can also sign up to have an accountability partner to check in with about your writing.
A specially designed sticker to celebrate submitting your article to a journal.
Who can participate in NaArWriMo?
Anyone! While this is started by the Library Writing Cooperative, a group of library workers, we want to encourage anyone and everyone to join us in the month of July as you work on your article(s). We recognize that summer is historically a time when many people work on personal projects, so we're here to support and encourage that.
Want to participate?
Sign up here to get started and let us know that you're in! You can indicate how much you'd like to participate in the group side of things and if you'd like us to send you a calendar invite to our weekly Zoom sessions (feel free to drop in and out of those as you can). We'll check in with you toward the end at the very least and see how things are going and if you'd like to claim your free sticker for completing your article.
When is this?
During the month of July!
We'll reach out then, but feel free to keep the spirit of NaArWriMo at any point of the year.
Need to claim your sticker from 2024?
It's not too late! Fill out this form.
P.S. Who's your fun mascot?
Oh, that's Nora the Narwhal! She's our group mascot and is here to cheer you on as you write your article(s).
