The Library Writing Cooperative is an initiative that grew out of a need in the profession for more support for research, writing, and service independent of professional associations. The collaboration is intended to support colleagues' professional development and service while fostering the inclusion of new and diverse voices in the profession. The First Draft Matchmaker program is the group’s first project. In 2022, the group launched National Article Writing Month (NaArWriMo).

Very special and heartfelt thanks to

Linds West Roberts, one of our original collaborators on our work encouraging new researchers and those interested in academic library scholarship. We began our work together in the Research & Scholarship Committee for the ACRL Instruction Section where we all contributed to the Research Agenda for Library Instruction and Information Literacy. For more on what we created together, check out our article, So you want to publish: Becoming a researcher (College & Research Libraries News, 2021),  and past presentations.

Tammy Ivins and the late Anne Pemberton for their work in this area, and the encouragement and inspiration to take this initiative further. We recommend Tammy and Anne's book, How to write and get published: a practical guide for librarians, as an additional resource.
