The purpose of the Special Education Associate position is to provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with special needs, allowing them to attend a regular classroom setting on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Accompany special needs students to classes, lunch, and on extensive community-based outside trips to work on daily living, career, and leisure skills.
2. Provide insturctional assistance to students in subjects when needed.
3. Provide assistance in classes such as PE, Home Arts, Computers.
4. Administer physical and/or occupational therapy programs, where appropriate, when trained by classroom and/or education agency therapists.
5. Assist with mobility needs such as repositioning, loading and unloading onto the bus, as well as transporting students around the school.
6. Assist students with self-care needs when appropriate.
7. Attend district seminars and classes as well as professional training.
8. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
9. Maintain confidentiality.
10. Assist with programs the teacher has created for educational purposes.
11. Report incidents of an unusual nature to teacher and principal.
12. Perform clerical tasks such as making phone calls, filing, and maintaining student records.
13. Maintain student work areas in a neat and orderly manner.
14. Knowledge of emergency procedures for building and classroom.
15. Maintain a reliable attendance record.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Training is required for Olmsted for the Traditional listings below. Associates will not attend with Karen Acres unless the listing says "& Karen Acres." There is no work in the PM unless indicated by the building admin in the staff news.
