News and Tips

These are just a few tips I think are important for just about everyone.

We all need to protect our critical data, the easiest and most reliable of all the backup services I have used over the years is Back Blaze. For only $50 per year you can easily protect all of the files you have created on a single PC with no limits. I urge you to give it a try.

You must have some security suite on each PC and it must be current! Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7 and 8 or Microsoft Windows Defender in Windows 10 is a free one. If you are a Charter/Spectrum Internet customer they have a free suite you can use, called Charter Security Suite.

Many of you also need a product like Malwarebytes, a very good and inexpensive product that I use. This in addition your your security suite.

Fully patch your computer and all software. Many of the threats that endanger our computers do so through flaws in the many applications we have installed. If all of your applications are up to date, as is your Windows installation you are safer.

Your website needs a security certificate. Https:// instead of Http://. Google is really starting to push this and it does not cost a lot.

256K Encryption is the current standard and it is pretty close to unbreakable. What the people selling encryption leave out is you don’t need to break it. All you need is the user name and password. Or the 4 digit access code on that secure, iPhone. Encryption is important but it is only as strong as the weakest link.
