Financial Aid

High school seniors are highly encouraged to apply for financial aid through the FAFSA or WASFA even if they aren’t sure about attending college—because financial assistance can support a wide range of postsecondary pathways, including vocational training, apprenticeships, and community college programs.

By applying for aid, students keep their options open because plans can change, and aid differs from school to school. Even if a teen’s parents make too much to qualify for need-based aid, applying for the FAFSA can still open doors to scholarships, merit-based aid, and low-interest federal loans that don’t rely on family income. Additionally, many schools and programs require a completed FAFSA to consider students for any type of financial assistance, regardless of family income.
