DDEC Application

1. Applying Through DDEC's Portal

In the final part of the application process, the researcher requesting a tax exemption has to create an account in DDEC's tax exemption portal and submit their application through it.

a. Researcher's Sworn Statement

Before proceeding, please contact a lawyer to complete and notarize the researcher sworn statement, as required by DDEC. Once you have this document, proceed to complete the application in DDEC's portal and pay the required processing fee ($5 as of April 2021).

Note:

Please remember that the DDEC Tax Exemption Application Form was designed to hold a single project's information, so if you are submitting multiple projects for tax exemption you should merge the forms into a single file before uploading it.

You only need one notarized researcher sworn statement for the entire application.

b. A Note on SSN Information

Before submitting the final package to DDEC, you will have to complete the missing portions to provide your full SSN as required by the government agency.

2. Other Important Information

DDEC has informed us that processing the documents will take a minimum of 45 days.

DDEC will evaluate your application and notify you when your tax exemption decree is available. You will have to notify DDEC of your acceptance of the decree.

Once you have received the decree, please contact the UPRM Campus Finance Office directly to request a modification of your W2 form for tax purposes.
