ASME SDC was officially founded in 2017 by Johaksiel Nieves-Román, who was also the team captain, and Wilbert Ostolaza, as co-captain. The initiative to form this team arose with the goal of giving students the opportunity to experience the entire process of a project, from understanding the requirements to optimization. This project made that vision possible, as the goal of the competition changed yearly, which meant we had no pre-set base or prototype to use. In 2017, we formed a team of 12 members from different concentrations with the goal of creating robots to play soccer. After a lot of effort and work given the lack of funds as it was a new project, we managed to participate in the competition, which was held at "Penn State University", obtaining the 15th place among more than 50 universities. The SDC provided the necessary skills to many of its members, who were able to obtain internship, co-op and full-time offers.
