STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION UPRM
STUDENT DESIGN COMPETITION UPRM
WELCOME
The Student Design Competition team (SDC UPRM) is a team based upon the Student Design Competition branch of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and it is established on the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez.
The ASME Student Design Competition (SDC UPRM) provides a platform for ASME Student members to present their solutions to a range of design problems from everyday household tasks to groundbreaking space exploration. Each team is required to design, construct and operate a prototype meeting the requirements of an annually determined problem statement. Annually changing the problem statement brings the opportunity to work on various and unique ideas. It motivates the members of the team to always keep learning new skills. It also encourages creativity because it gives the students the opportunity to solve the problem in the way they think its best; there is no exact blueprint or background to follow.
Empower ASME Student members to cultivate innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills through the ASME Student Design Competition (SDC UPRM). By providing a platform for students to tackle diverse design challenges, ranging from everyday household tasks to pioneering space exploration endeavors, we aim to foster a community of lifelong learners and innovators. Through designing, constructing, and operating prototypes in response to annually determined problem statements, we inspire students to push the boundaries of their knowledge and expertise while embracing the spirit of innovation. Our mission is to nurture a culture of continuous learning, creativity, and collaboration among ASME Student members, preparing them to address the challenges of the future with confidence and ingenuity.
Our vision is to be the premier platform for ASME Student members worldwide to unleash their creativity, innovation, and technical prowess through the ASME Student Design Competition (SDC UPRM). We envision a future where students from diverse backgrounds come together to tackle complex problems, ranging from the mundane to the extraordinary, with enthusiasm and determination. By embracing annually changing problem statements, we aspire to provide students with endless opportunities to explore new ideas, acquire new skills, and push the boundaries of traditional engineering paradigms. Through the SDC, we envision a community of passionate and empowered students who are not only equipped to excel in their academic and professional pursuits but are also committed to making a positive impact on society through innovative design solutions.
