Homework

Vocabulary: Students are given ten vocabulary words every Monday. They are expected to find a definition and create their own sentence for those ten words. Creating your own sentence promotes prolonged understanding and retention of word. They are also expected to write the word five times each, all on their "Spelling Stars" worksheet. Every Wednesday they are asked aloud to say a definition or sentence for a word I choose. Every Friday there is a Vocabulary Quiz.
Google Classroom: Every week students are responsible to complete an online writing assignment on Google Classroom. All students have been given their Username and Password and time to sign in on laptops in my Language Arts classroom. Students have been informed on both the Real Rap and React Respond assignments. They assignments alternate by week. For example this week React Respond # 1 is due Thursday by 8:45am and next week Real Rap # 2 is due Thursday by 8:45am.
Reading Comprehension Test / Quizzes: As we read short stories and novels through the year, students will often be assessed on their knowledge of the content and reading comprehension. At times there will be a multiple choice Quiz for a given story or their might be a Quote Quiz. A Quote Quiz consists of the teacher putting up a significant quote on the board from the passage, short story or novel we are reading. The students are then responsible for explaining the context of the quote and its significance to the readings.
