Academic Support

Program Chair - for academic advice on courses to take, retention or readmission status, evaluation for graduation, queries on the thesis process, and similar issues contact your program chair by email at sse@upou.edu.ph .

UP or UPOU email - once you enrol in the university you will be issued by the registrar's office (registration@upou.edu.ph) a UP email that looks like yourname@up.edu.ph. Older students have been issued by the Information and Communication Technology Development Office (miso@upou.edu.ph) a UPOU email that looks like yourname@upou.edu.ph . These email addresses are gmail addresses but with a university domain.

IMPORTANT: Use your UP or UPOU email when communicating with UPOU offices because it is like a student ID card. No one who is not a member of UP or UPOU will acquire a @upou.edu.ph or @up.edu.ph email address and using this email increases the trust that staff has in email-based request that involves privacy issues or request for credentials.

Learner Support

UP Open University being an open and distance e-learning institution has a distributed infrastructure to cater to the needs of students distributed around the world. You should familiarise yourself with the virtual and physical facilities of UPOU in order to find the information you need and seek assistance for specific needs as a distance education student.

Virtual Registrar's Office - this is also known as the Office of the University Registrar's Online Registration System or "Student Portal" and it is available at http://our.upou.edu.ph/student/ .  The physical office of the registrar's office is at the UPOU HQ in Los Baños, Laguna but most registration services are available online at the Student Portal.

The Student Portal is where you enrol online every semester, and check your official grades for your courses. Other services offered online includes online application for completion and request for various records. Take note that if you cannot use any of the online registration and records facilities you can contact your learning center to find out the procedure for submitting applications on paper.

Note also that different sites at UPOU have different technical support teams. You should know which team to contact in order to get efficient response and action to your concerns. For the registration issues with the student portal contact registration@upou.edu.ph . For records issues with the student portal contact records@upou.edu.ph .

The Student Portal (virtual registrar's office) is different from the virtual classroom of UPOU called UPOU MyPortal. Make sure you do not confuse the two so that you can seek assistance for technical issues from the right support service.

Virtual Classroom - Courses are hosted at the university's virtual classroom called MyPortal available at  https://myportal.upou.edu.ph/login/.

The SSE Program is fully online and will rarely hold face-to-face classes at the Learning Centers.

The course guide or syllabus, instructional materials, discussion boards, assignment submission bins, and online quizzes are in the MyPortal course sites. But official grades are published in the ORS Student Portal and not in MyPortal.

For technical support for any issue regarding MyPortal, email techsupport@upou.edu.ph

To facilitate assistance please provide the following:

1.   Subject title describing the problem: Example would be "Request for MyPortal log-in credentials" (or for continuing students, "Request for MyPortal password reset")

2.   Full name (DO NOT use your nickname)

3.   Student number (For verification purposes)

4.   Email address registered in MyPortal (Note that if you are using @yahoo.com check if it is yahoo.com.ph or some other yahoo country extension instead)

5.   A complete description of the problem(s) you are encountering with MyPortal. Don't just type “Please help me.”. If you can send a screenshot, attach it to an email to techsupport@upou.edu.ph.

Library - See http://library.upou.edu.ph for their online services. The library's primary means of contact is through the email library@upou.edu.ph. You should avail of the username and password for online journals and dissertation collections particularly those offered by PROQUEST.

The physical library is located at UPOU HQ in Los Banos, Laguna. You may also access other UP constituent university libraries near you as a UPOU student. Please contact library@upou.edu.ph for the procedure of accessing other UP units libraries.
