Promote ethical conduct in research
a. Ensure that all research conducted under the Faculty adheres to ethical principles such as respect for persons,
beneficence, nonmaleficence, and justice.
b. Uphold national and institutional research ethics guidelines.
Review and evaluate research proposals
a. Assess research protocols to ensure risks are minimized and reasonable relative to potential benefits.
b. Classify and process applications (Exempt, Expedited, Full Review) according to risk level and methodological
quality.
Ensure responsible data management
a. Promote ethical standards for data collection, storage, privacy protection, confidentiality, and disposal.
b. Ensure compliance with data privacy laws and institutional policies.
Support ethical decision-making in research
Provide guidance, resources, and advisories to researchers on ethical issues, including consent, vulnerability,
confidentiality, and digital research methods.
Monitor ongoing and completed research
a. Ensure that approved studies adhere to the conditions of their ethics clearance.
b. Review amendments, monitor progress reports, and address any ethical concerns or adverse events.
Strengthen a culture of ethical scholarship
a. Promote awareness and education on ethical research practices among faculty, students, and staff.
b. Conduct capacity-building activities such as seminars, workshops, and orientations.
Ensure accountability and transparency
a. Maintain records of decisions, approvals, and processes in accordance with institutional guidelines.
b. Provide clear procedures for appeals, complaints, or ethical misconduct related to research.
Align with institutional and regulatory standards
Ensure that faculty-level processes contribute to the university's overall compliance with national and international
research ethics frameworks.
