Glass and ceramics research group is a team of scientists and engineers who are focused on studying the properties, behavior, and applications of glass and ceramics materials. These groups may be based in academic or industrial settings, and they typically have expertise in a range of fields, including materials science, chemistry, physics, and engineering. The research conducted by glass and ceramics research groups can encompass a wide range of topics, including the development of new materials, the optimization of existing materials, and the exploration of novel applications for glass and ceramics.
Prof. Madya Dr. Khamirul Amin Matori
Khamirul Amin Matori is an Associate Professor at Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He received the BSc in Physics and MSc in Materials Science from Universiti Putra Malaysia in 1995 and 2000 respectively. He attained his PhD from the University of Sheffield in Materials Engineering in 2007. He joined UPM after BSc at Matriculation Canter for 5 years before become UPM Science faculty member in 2000 until now. Due to his outstanding research activities, UPM have appointed him as a Head of Materials Synthesis and Characterization Laboratory at Institute of Advanced Technology in 2012-2016 and Deputy Dean (Development, Finance & Industry Community Relations Staff) at Faculty of Science from 2016-2021. Locally, he has lead and secured 12 research projects as a main researcher with total research grants value of RM 2,277,000.00 and co researchers for 18 projects with total research grants value of RM 1,878,500.00 from various ministries and university. To-date, he had authored and co-authored more than 250 scientific publications. At the capacity of a project supervisor, to date he has 13 PhD students graduated and as for MSc, to date there were 13 MSc graduated as a main supervisor. In terms of professional extension and consultation, he has been invited by various local and international organizations as well as ministry for services and references such as MOE, KPT, AKEPT, JPA and MIGHT where he represented UPM well. He had been appointed as Member on Technical Committee on Fine Ceramics (IKM/ISC-B/TC14) by Institut Kimia Malaysia. Member/Consultant, Technical Assessment Panel for MiGHT Technology Nurturing (Biotechnology and Biotech industry cluster) from March 2013-February 2014.
Dr. Mohd Hafiz Mohd Zaid
Dr. Mohd Hafiz Mohd Zaid is a Senior Lecturer at Department of Physics, Faculty of Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He is actively conducting research in the field of materials science, glass, ceramics, and composites that have the potential to be used in the field of optoelectronics. During his 5-year working experience as a senior lecturer, he has led various research projects to produce glass, ceramic and composite materials, which have been funded through research allocations from the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), Universiti Putra Malaysia's special fund, Sakura Science Fund and also a ceramic glass-based tile research project funded by the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), a ceramic products company based in Saudi Arabia. This success is the result of a UPM-SGS collaborative research project in 2018. He has written more than 200 high-impact journal papers at the international level, 15 presentations in conferences/seminars, and also several chapters in books related to glass and ceramics. Apart from that, he has also evaluated more than 100 journal papers. His current number of citations is 2451 with an h-index of 32 in the Scopus database and a number of citations of 3099 and an h-index of 35 in the Google Scholar database.
