Upcoming Church Events

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

Tuesdays, September 4 through October 24, 9:30–10:30am

Tai Chi is an art and an exercise from ancient China that was created based on the laws of nature. Most people practice Tai Chi for health and relaxation. Evidence has shown that the slow gentle movements of Tai Chi can help people with arthritis increase their strength, flexibility and stamina, reducing their pain and improving their balance to prevent falls.

Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention uses gentle Sun-style Tai Chi routines that are safe, easy to learn, and suitable for beginners. This program has been developed by Dr. Paul Lam in collaboration with the Arthritis Foundation and is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Lam is a medical doctor in Sydney, Australia.

This free eight-week program is designed to not only be relaxing, but enjoyable, too!

Dates and Times: Tuesdays, 9:30–10:30am, September 4 through October 23 (no class on September 18) at United Presbyterian Church. To register, call the church office at 607-722-4219 or send an email to office@upcbgm.org.

Instructor: Cindy Burger, certified by the Tai Chi for Health Institute to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis and Tai Chi for Fall Prevention. www.taichiforhealthinstitute.org

Adult & Children’s Sunday School Classes

Starting Sunday, September 16

Our Sunday School classes follow the same Seasons of the Spirit curriculum that we also use for our worship services.

The Adult class meets before worship at 9:00am. Led by class members on a rotating basis, we discuss the scripture passage of the day. All are welcome.

The children’s classes meet after worship at 11:25am. We have classes for children ages 3 and up. We hope you’ll join us!

Dinner Church

Sunday, September 23, 4:30pm

On Sunday, September 23, we will again be having a “Dinner Church” worship service at 4:30pm in the Library Lounge. Come and join us as we gather around tables for conversation, worship, and sharing, followed by a potluck dinner.

We’ve been offering this family-friendly service at 4:30pm on the 4th Sundays each month since June, for late risers and early golfers and everyone in between. We’ve enjoyed experimenting with this new service during the summer months, so if you missed out on those Dinner Church services, we invite you to try something new. It would be good to have you with us!

There will also be a “worship light” prayer service in the morning at 10am for those who are unable to be with us at 4:30pm.

Church Support Workshop “Church 102”

Saturday, October 6, 9am–2pm at First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta

The Presbytery of Susquehanna Valley’s Committee on Ministry is offering the second part of their church support workshops this fall. All are invited to come, enjoy fellowship & free food, and learn and experience how the churches of our presbytery can move into a vision of spiritual growth and renewal.

During the workshop led by Elder George Budine, Commissioned Lay Pastor at Nichols Pres, there will be time to break into small groups. We’ll be presented with different situations for everyone to discuss, with real solutions that churches can adopt. This workshop will allow more interaction between everyone.

RSVPs are requested by September 28, and childcare is available upon request. If you have questions, or to RSVP, contact Pastor Becky or the Presbytery office (pmc@susvalpresby.org or 607-323-4477).
