This activity is planned by SYMCREA to celebrate the beginning of the academic year.
We will have a visitor, Vanessa Lenzotti, and three new members joining SYMCREA:
Giovanni Mocellin, who was previously at ETH Zürich and is joining SYMCREA as a PhD student. Giovanni's PhD thesis concerns Computation and Undecidability in Physical Systems.
Florent Schaffhauser, who was at Heidelberg University and is joining SYMCREA with a Senior Beatriz Galindo position.
Chiara Toldo, who was at the Université Libre de Bruxelles and is joining SYMCREA with a Ramón y Cajal position.
After lunch, Vanessa will give a talk, followed by informal presentations by our new members.

Hamiltonian Hierarchies and Classical W-algebras
Abstract: The goal of this talk is to look at the connection between integrable systems and W-algebras. We will briefly review two core Hamiltonian hierarchies, the KP hierarchy and its reduction, the n-KdV hierarchy, analyzing them in terms of pseudodifferential operators. Then, we will discuss the fermionic and bosonic formulations of the KP hierarchy, and see how the theory generalizes to the multicomponent case. In the last part of the talk, we will use symplectic reduction as the key tool to construct classical W-algebras and see how they naturally associate to the n-reduced multicomponent KP hierarchy.
