Alpha Testing for Ariadne (v0.1.2) is has reopened! Help us develop Ariadne by becoming an Alpha Tester.
Thank you for your interest in Alpha testing Ariadne (v0.1.2). This test is meant to identify bugs and other issues before the actual release of the product as part of our user acceptance testing.
The Alpha test aims to gain insights from users and user-developers on the usability, sustainability, and maintainability of Ariadne as a browser extension.
The following features are to be evaluated:
The browser extension’s ability to detect and provide insight into the language clarity and option weight of a browser banner encountered in the use
The browser extension’s ability to receive and process user reports through its interface
Users are expected to have access to the browser extension and appropriate resources (e.g., this website, the dashboard, and documentation). This category of testers is intended for people who would use the browser extension with no involvement in the development process at all.
User-developers are expected to have access to all the resources the users have access to and the repository of the project itself. This category of testers is intended for people who would use the browser extension and have an interest in getting involved in the development process.
The Alpha test requires all testers to use either Google Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers to install Ariadne (v0.1.2). Testers are provided the option to install the browser extension through builds available in the project repository or the Chrome Web Store.
For users, it would be more straightforward to install Ariadne (v.0.1.2) through the Chrome Web Store. For user-developers, it is strongly recommended to install the build for Ariadne (v0.1.2) available in the project repository.
More instructions on installation is available in the official documentation or the project repository for Ariadne.
NOTE: The Alpha testing questionnaire will require you to disclose the highest attained level of education, user type, browser used, and method of installation used. You may opt to disclose your name, email, and occupation should you be willing to be contacted for further insights and developments regarding Ariadne. You can view our Privacy Policy here.
The developers encourage the testers to spend at least a day of normal browsing (whatever that entails for the tester) before proceeding with the rest of the instructions.
Throughout the test, the tester is expected to have the Alpha testing questionnaire open on the page for logging the behavior of the browser extension. This provides a form where testers are to log their observations regarding the website and the provided readings of Ariadne.
The testers are expected to visit the eight (8) websites listed below and two (2) more websites of choice (preferably media or shopping websites) and complete the log for a total of ten (10) entries.
Testers are expected to log whether or not the website they visited displays a cookie banner or not in the provided area of the form seen below.
Testers are expected to log the readings of the browser extension for each listed website as seen below. Should the reading indicate the use of both unclear language and weighted options, both boxes should be ticked.
The testers may also volunteer any additional information in the dedicated question below.
Testers are also highly encouraged to try submitting any kind of report, whether it is to confirm or correct a reading. This can be done by exploring the options on the browser extension’s console.
After the baseline extent of use detailed above, testers are to accomplish a questionnaire. This questionnaire aims to evaluate the following qualities and answer their corresponding guiding questions based on the Software Sustainability Institute’s Criteria-based Software evaluation:
Understandability: To what extent is the browser extension easily understood?
Documentation: Does the browser extension have comprehensive, appropriate, and well-structured user documentation?
Installability: To what extent is the browser extension straightforward to install on a supported system?
Learnability: Is the browser extension easy to learn how to use?
Identity: Is the project/browser extension identity clear and unique?
Copyright and Licensing: Is it easy to see who owns the project/browser extension? Does it adopt the appropriate license?
Accessibility: Is there evidence of the current or future ability to download?
