First, the letter ‘V’ is the initial letter of the word “Vector” which is the official name of the organization. Then, the arrow above the ‘V’ represents the hat annotation for a vector quantity. This vector quantity concept is adopted in the logo representation since the organization vowed to its members to attain its ‘numerous’ and ‘have-direction’ objectives in the field of physics. Lastly, the maroon color is in-lined with the university color that symbolizes the fight for freedom.
In 2011, the pioneer batch of BS Applied Physics formed the Medically-Oriented Physics Society (Med-Ops). Med-Ops was the first recognized academic organization catering students interested in applied physics and the related fields. However, in the same year, it was renamed to UP Vector, the sole and premier student-led physics organization in the University of the Philippines Manila that exists in the present.
By the year 2020, the Executive Committee then proposed to restructure the existing governing body and introduced the Junior Associates Program, a recruitment program that further contextualizes the mission and vision of the organization and its members. Currently, UP Vector is still on the move to maintain its momentum of service through the active cooperation of the very people it aims to serve — its members, alumni, and the Filipino public.
