Women lived by Their own moral.
by: Danajane D. Pradilla
“A woman’s place is wherever she wants it to be." This quote reminds us that women are strong and capable. They deserve respect and the freedom to make their own choices. The movie Moral, written by Ricky Lee, tells the story of women who live their lives according to their own values and decisions. They face challenges, love, and personal struggles without needing anyone to define them.
If we use the reader response lens. The stories of Joey, Kathy, Sylvia, and Marites felt so real, like I could see myself or people I know in their struggles. It made me realize how much women are expected to act, speak, and even dress in ways that won’t upset others, and how unfair that really is. I was especially moved by how these characters supported each other, even when life got hard, because it showed the power of friendship and solidarity among women.
If we view the movie through a feminist lens, it clearly shows how women experience life in society. There is a strong power imbalance against women, but what really stood out to me is how the women in the movie understand each other deeply. They do not need men to feel seen or heard; they only need other women who truly understand their situations.
The story literally shows “moral” because the women are aware of their own personal values. What I find ironic is that society expects women to follow certain rules or gender roles, pressuring them to behave “properly” to avoid judgment. In the movie, the women go against these social norms. They choose what they believe is right for themselves, even when society views their actions as wrong. I really loved the part when Joey’s mother said, “If you do not want the baby, you have the right to decide. I believe that women have the right to be childless without being condemned by society, but you do not have the right to destroy your life.” This line is powerful because it supports women’s right to choose for themselves, showing that being a woman does not mean blindly following society’s expectations.
