Synopsis

The panel presented three papers from DFPP UP Diliman. They highlighted the importance and continuing relevance of the Filipino language and literature in General Education and engaging with Philippine social realities. Andrada’s paper shows that oral literature from tulang bayan, lowa, bugtong to text tula and art cards posted on social media have been used to creatively criticize and protest inequalities and abuses in human rights. Gonzales’ paper shows how video games can be used as teaching tools in reading and language. Jocson’s outlines avenues how DFPP and Filipino language courses can respond to evolving language policies discussion in the Philippines. All three presenters call for a renewed appreciation for the importance of Wika Filipino in the GE Program.
