COMM 10 CHAT BOX HIGHLIGHTS

“Pastiche,” “bricolage,” “mashup,” etc. I think these can be incorporated as

postmodern techniques in producing content.

Students appreciate feedback. We need to let them know we are reading all their work.

Hi I'm Steph Lagasca from UP Baguio. One thing that my students appreciated is that outputs don't necessarily have to be written outputs only. They have free reign to create the format of their output, whether artwork, ppt, written paper, etc. As long as they answer the questions of the assignment.

Stephanie Lagasca

Meme making is a good example that challenges traditional notions of authorship and originality.

Robin Daniel Rivera

One of the things din po that my students like is the identity survey I make them answer at the start of Module 3.

I’ve been doing that since I started teaching Comm 10 two years ago, so I have accumulated data na po for my UPLB students. I also answer the said quiz, so they also get to know me. It’s a good way for us to start Module 3.

Real talk: FB, Messenger, soc media really facilitates engagement with students. It's a challenge

to reconcile this with UP ITDC webinars which discourage the use of FB/Messenger etc. for communicating

(though they do recommend Signal as an alternative).

Wen Raymundo

I make them watch the movie "Wag the Dog." You would be surprised how that movie

can impact the worldview of students. Another movie that my students really like is "Arrival"

starring Jeremy Renner. It is about a linguist who is tasked to establish communication with aliens.

It touches so many concepts found in the Comm 10 modules.

Jose Ogatis

I make them watch the great hack and the social dilemma on Netflix,

very impactful for rhetoric and changing landscape of comm respectively.

Stephanie Lagasca

Some films available on Netflix could be used. I ask my students to watch Little Women

and/or The Half of It for Communication and Identity Construction.

Kenneth Rey Recio

Hello from UPLB. Aside from using examples relevant to students, I think it’s also important to integrate Philippine/Eastern theories into our modules dominated by Western comms & media theories, esp those from dead white men. (Not just in modules 5&6 but throughout the modules) UP Press’ Communication & Media Theories

(ed by Rolando Tolentino, etc) is a good reference i think

Ai Mac

I agree with Ma’am Ai. We have to also prepare in updating our modules due to many concerns, such as old video clips, overwhelming reading materials, and Filipino-centric comm theories. If we are expected to revise in 5 years, baka po pwede ang kaunting mga pihit as we go along :)

Cheeno Marlo Sayuno

We always have to consider to address the multi-disciplinary approach of the COMM10

to be useful for all students regardless of their fields of specialization.
