A Final Requirement in Arkiyoloji 1
This project aims to give a deeper understanding of the Bolinao skulls and their importance to the cultural identity and heritage of the Filipinos. Through a corroboration of scholarly articles, this website was created in order to further contextualize this archaeological artefact that was excavated in Balingasay, Bolinao, Pangasinan.
The Bolinao skull was unearthed when archaeologists explored the burial sites of Bolinao dated as early as 1920. Aside from the trade wares and different grave goods that were excavated from the site, archaeologists found that several skulls had gold dental ornamentations shaped like fish scales. There were clear traces of gold pegging on 67 individual teeth that had been found by archaeologists. They discovered 51 adult burials and 2 infant jar burials from the 14th and 15th centuries in 1964 at a location close to the mouth of the Balingasay River.
