We’re a group of undergraduate students from the University of the Philippines Diliman currently taking Psych 103: LGBTQI Psychology. For our final project, we decided to focus on lesbian families and how their stories are represented—or often, erased—in mainstream media. Our advocacy is to push for genuine diversity and inclusion by highlighting the lived experiences of lesbian families, especially within the conservative and heteronormative context of the Philippines. This zine was created to affirm that lesbian families are real, loving, and complex and that their stories deserve to be told, seen, and heard.
In this zine, you’ll find reflections on media representation, insights on families, parenting, and kinship, and critical discussions about stereotypes, discrimination, diversity and inclusion. We aim to challenge dominant narratives and call on creatives and media consumers alike to tell and support stories that capture the richness of queer family life.
